The Appeal
The M635CSi sits at the apex of BMW's E24 Sharknose coupé range. Its M88/3 inline-six, a twin-cam, individually throttle-bodied unit descended from the mid-engined M1, produced 286hp, channelled through a Getrag five-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels via a ZF limited-slip differential. Motorsport-developed suspension and uprated brakes completed the package. With only 524 right-hand-drive examples built across the model's seven-year production run, it remains one of the most sought-after grand tourers of its era.
This example was delivered new by BMW main dealer MLG of Chiswick in January 1986 and was reportedly serviced by main BMW dealers up to 51,000 miles. More recent maintenance has been entrusted to Munich Legends and The Classic Car Company, whose invoices document a broad scope of work. Structural attention has included new floor pan sections and sill repairs, while the mechanical overhaul has encompassed valve clearance adjustment, timing chain tensioner, fuel and brake lines, clutch hydraulics, rear sub-frame bushes, front wheel bearings and much more. A history file including owner's manuals, MOT certificates, the and specialist invoices accompanies the car.
