The Appeal
Pound for pound, the R107 is one of the finest classics you can buy. These roadsters were silky-smooth, refined and powerful, with attractive brutalist lines, handsome executive cabins and precision engineering at their core. They've also proven to be cars of endurance; an eminently drivable classic that runs and runs, from an age when Mercedes-Benz seemed unable to do wrong.
This 1986 UK-registered example has been the subject of a thorough restoration by its current owner, having been stripped to a bare shell before being resprayed in its original Signal Red. An impressive documentation trail accompanies the vehicle, including over 20 MOTs corroborating the 83,000-mile odometer reading. The car comes to market with an MOT valid to April 2027, and by all accounts is ready and waiting to drive away.
The vendor adds:
"The car will be 40 years old this year yet will come to market with a fresh MOT. The car drives beautifully and changes gear very smoothly. All parts used during the rebuild were Mercedes/OEM/Febi Bilstein or the best available. It also benefits from a new Mohair softop, new headlining to hardtop & new premium weather seals supplied by The SL shop. Sort after signal red paint and first of the galvanised bodied to be introduced in 1986."
