The Appeal
A racuous roadster at its best, the 290 S is a high-octane, fibreglass-bodied lightweight befitting of the TVR reputation - powered by a 2.9-litre V6 courtesy of Ford. It's still a muscular-looking, handsome machine that's very no-nonsense and very engaging. It's a clear modern classic, perfect for taking down twisty B-roads.
This silver example benefited from a body-off chassis restoration around 2003–4 and has since been the subject of a methodical, multi-stage programme of maintenance and improvement by its current keeper, who acquired the car in late 2017 as a retirement project. Mechanical work has covered both the front and rear suspension, the braking system, electrical wiring, cooling, fuel system, and clutch hydraulics, with full details listed below.
