The Appeal
Honda’s lightweight CRX coupe is widely regarded as one of the best-handling cars of its era. Add a stylish Targa body, and you have one of the 1990s hidden motoring gems. These cars are well-built, reliable and rare finds.
This 1993 De Sol is fitted with the simpler, more reliable manual removable Targa top and, as you might expect of a Honda of this era, very well preserved. It is factory standard and nicely presented with few signs of age to the paintwork. Inside the black fabric cabin wears its 33 years lightly.
Beneath the bonnet is Honda’s revvy 1.6L VTEC engine, here mated to a relaxing 4spd auto box. This is a car built for cruising and enjoying the sun, which its condition and relatively low mileage suggest its handful of keepers have done. The current keeper acquired the car in 2022 and tells us that it has always been garaged. We’re advised of regular maintenance, with the last service in August 2025, since when it has barely covered 500 miles. Recent work has included new lower arm bushes and a replacement battery. The current MOT runs to August 2027 with no advisories.
This is a very tidy CRX and a welcome alternative to more common open top 90s sportsters.
The vendor says:
“An absolute pleasure to drive, no squeaks or rattles, smooth automatic gear change, the paintwork is in excellent condition and no fade considering bright red and age.”
