The Appeal
The E39-generation BMW 5 Series is widely regarded as one of the finest sports saloons ever produced, and the 523i, with its silky M52 inline-six paired to a five-speed manual gearbox, is a particularly engaging point in the much-prized lineage.
This particular example was purchased new from Cronk BMW (now Vines of Redhill) in 1998 and has remained with its original owner ever since, with a remarkably low mileage on the clock. It was driven regularly until around 2005/6, after which it was dry-stored, being started and driven periodically on a private lane to keep everything in working order.
Recent maintenance at the start of 2026 included an oil change using premium Millers oil, along with fresh oil, air, cabin and fuel filters. Brand new Falken tyres were fitted at a cost of over £500, and the original factory tyres have been retained for the new owner. The car was MOT'd for the first time in over 20 years in December 2025, initially failing only on flat-spotted tyres and a non-working horn, both since rectified, before passing with zero advisories. It comes with five original BMW books, the original toolkit and torch, original dealer plates, stickers, and tax discs, and a full mat set.
