The Appeal
A couple of discreet features explain why deep-dive enthusiasts rate the 2.8L car over other straight six E46 variants. This model got a mechanical throttle, rather than the drive-by-wire fitted to the 325 and 330, and a weightier steering rack with better feel. And all that is before you consider the 2.8L M52 straight six’s low down torque…
Good, unmolested 328s are a tough find, which is why we like this 1999 car. It is a low-mileage, factory standard coupe with plush SE specification and 5spd manual box. Its four keepers have clearly looked after it, the interior and exterior showing light age in the photos, but nothing beyond cosmetic according to the MOT.
The service history shows regular attention over the years, commensurate with mileage. In recent years, it has been looked after by BMW specialist MJF. Their work has included a service in July 2025, a new rear brake discs, pad and calliper in 2026, and other work which is documented in photos. The current MOT runs to June 2027 with a small list of advisories, most of which have been subsequently addressed.
The joy of a good, well-specified E46 is just how usable these cars are. They work equally well at car meets as daily drivers. This one has the condition and maintenance to fulfil either role well.
The vendor says:
“Having owned and driven many BMW cars, there is little doubt that the E46 is hard to beat. The car runs very smoothly with significant power throughout the 5 gears and excellent road holding - a real pleasure to drive.”
