The Appeal
The Z3M Coupé remains one of BMW's most distinctive and characterful performance cars. Its shooting brake silhouette divided opinion on launch but has since earned genuine icon status, and the later S54-engined cars, produced from late 2000, are widely regarded as the definitive version. With 315 bhp from the same 3.2-litre straight-six found in the E46 M3, the S54 brought a smoother, torquier, and more responsive character to an already compelling package. Only 165 right-hand drive examples were produced worldwide, with just 123 for the UK market, making this a genuinely rare car.
This particular example carries notable provenance. First registered in April 2001 by BMW UK as their press launch car, it was subsequently entrusted to Harry Metcalfe and the team at EVO magazine, joining their celebrated 'Fast Fleet' for 11 months. It featured on the magazine's cover as part of their 'Gran Turismo 5' article, and copies of the relevant issues accompany the car. Finished in Titan Silver Metallic over black leather and specified with a sunroof, Harman Kardon hi-fi, cruise control, heated seats, electric mirrors, and a 6-CD player, it was comprehensively equipped from new.
The service history reportedly runs to 12 documented entries, from the run-in service at 974 miles through to an Inspection 1 service carried out by a BMW dealer in July 2024 at 65,300 miles. The car is offered from a small private collection having been stored over winter, and the vendor describes it as a nicely original and diligently maintained example.
