The Appeal
Aside from some lightly facelifted aesthetics, this final XK8 may look much like an early X100, which is as it should be considering how good the original is. But, as model experts know, these final cars are fundamentally different. The AJ34 engine is a major improvement over the AJV8 and the 6spd auto gearbox is stronger too.
The special edition ‘4.2S’ here takes the improvements yet further. Built to celebrate mark the end of production, these cars got sharper steering, firmer and lowered suspension and a raft of bespoke trim. Just 200 were built in bespoke colours, including the Copper Black metallic of this car, and they are identifiable by the white badges and discreet ‘4.2S’ boot badge.
This low keeper car is a very usable, tidy example that has been looked after by main dealers and specialists to 94,500 miles. It is now on 98,000 miles. Recent work includes over £4,000 on paint repairs, electrics and minor jobs. The current MOT runs to November 2026.
The later X100 is as rewarding as any Jaguar in your garage will be, but also intensely usable. The 4.2S, if you can find one, is the one to have.
