The Appeal
While some supercar makers take a more aggressive approach to design and build, focusing on headline-grabbing performance figures, the Dutch Spyker outfit has always done things differently. Its ultra-low volume cars are like four-wheeled, high-end Swiss watches - utterly capable, impeccably built and as much design showpiece as road-going weapon.
The Laviolette arrived a year after the Spyder. It features a fastback coupe roof that is similar to the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. Like AC, Spyker took the Laviolette to Le Mans in 2009 and 2010 and competed in the European Le Mans Series.
Just 55 of these hardtop cars were built, and this 2009 example is likely one of the very last. Beautifully finished in dark grey metallic with a two-tone chocolate quilted leather cabin, it is a well-presented car that has covered just 7,481 miles in its 17 years. The car left the factory with a long list of options, which are detailed below, including Chronoswiss, which alone cost 50,000 Euros
The current keeper is only the car’s fourth. He acquired it in 2018 and has used it sparingly. The MOT and servicing history support the low mileage. The latter shows regular attention by Spyker main dealers or high-end dealers from new, most recently in May 2024. The car has only covered 800 miles since this work. The current MOT runs to May 2026 with no advisories.
With less than 300 C8s built, chancing on one is a rare opportunity. Finding a Laviolette is harder still. This car has the sparing use, provenance and condition to warrant serious consideration.

The compact Spyker eschews the aggression and drama of some of its rivals, in favour of a simpler, slippery shape that, as this car shows, has an element of timelessness about it. But what really sets it apart is the car’s remarkable attention to detail, most obvious in the hand-crafted interior but also evident in the exterior chromework and badging. We love the gear lever arrangement, the classic wheel and the engine turned dashboard. It is a car that rewards repeated viewings.
The Laviolette features a sleek coupe roof that incorporates an array of details like the roof vent, slatted engine cover and glass panels. It arguably makes this version of the C8 even more attractive than the convertible.
This late model 2009 car is in very good order, thanks to the low mileage and careful storage. There are a few cosmetic points to note in the photos, which could likely be easily remedied if the buyer desired.
The Mechanics
- 4.2-litre 395bhp Audi V8 engine
- Six-speed manual gearbox
- 186mph top speed
- Maintained by Spyker main dealers and specialists
- Last serviced in May 2024 with few miles since
- No advisories on current MOT
The C8 could have been merely a design masterclass, but instead, this is a hugely capable supercar too. The reviews have been consistently positive since the car arrived 26 years ago, praising its balance, performance, agility and tactility.
Beneath the rear cowl is a developed version of Audi’s well-regarded 4.2L V8 engine, tuned to 395bhp and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. This car has covered fewer than 7,500 miles in 17 years. Maintenance has been undertaken by main dealers and specialists, most recently in May 2024 by Aston Martin Leeds. The current MOT runs to May 2026.
