Introduced in 1966, the Series II E-Type 2+2 extended the stunning and wildly successful E-Type platform concept into a more practical GT. Its longer wheelbase provided additional rear accommodation and luggage space, while the Fixed Head Coupé's elegant roofline made it particularly well suited to long-distance touring. The 2+2 also featured a revised rear bulkhead and improved interior accommodation, making it a genuinely useful four-seat GT.

The Series 2 brought a number of important technical revisions. The 4. 2-litre XK straight-six was retained, producing around 265bhp and delivering the abundant torque for which the engine was renowned. Braking was upgraded with more effective servo assistance and larger front callipers, while cooling was improved through a larger radiator and twin electric fans. Reclining seats, improved ventilation, revised switchgear and larger front indicators and rear lamps completed the Series 2's more mature specification.

It must be said this 1970 UK right-hand-drive 2+2 Fixed Head Coupé is a handsome and presentable example. According to the accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, the Jaguar was delivered via Hillwood Motors of The New Forest in April 1970, specified originally in Sable with a Cinnamon leather interior.

The Jaguar shows just one former keeper from new, being offered from current long-term enthusiast owner as part of a small collection of British classics. We understand the bodywork was subject to an earlier repaint in its current shade of silver metallic, and whilst running and driving, the car would benefit from light recommissioning and cosmetic improvement before being used once more.

A substantial history file accompanies the car, containing useful documentation supporting its maintenance and provenance.

The Series 2's combination of the proven 4. 2-litre XK engine, improved brakes and cooling, and more usable four-seat accommodation makes it an especially rewarding interpretation of the E-Type. For the enthusiast seeking an honest and presentable E-Type, this handsome 2+2 offers a particularly the opportunity to enjoy one of Jaguar's definitive sporting GTs of the period.
