The Appeal
The second model in Jaguar's post-war XK series, the XK140 was re-engineered to be more refined, more practical and more powerful than its predecessor. In Drophead Coupé form, it ranks among the most coveted Jaguar convertibles of the 1950s, with its electric windows and more sophisticated interior, offering grand touring comfort that set it apart from the roadster.
This 1956 example boasts a fascinating provenance. Delivered new by the Paris-based Delacroix dealership on 26 August 1956, it was ordered by Mr Marceron, a Monégasque racing driver who specified right-hand drive to replicate period racing cars, paired with a speedometer calibrated in kilometres per hour.
Acquired at auction in 2003 by the current owning family, it has covered fewer than 20,000 km under their stewardship. A comprehensive restoration was carried out in 2013, and the car now presents itself elegantly in its factory black livery with red interior, confirmed by its authenticity certificate. The seller states that the bodywork is free from imperfections, dents or scratches, whilst the soft top and tonneau cover are described as being in very good condition. Mechanically, the seller reports that the 3.4-litre engine runs with good oil pressure and all four gears engage smoothly. With its French classic registration, this XK140 DHC represents an interesting proposition.IMG_5510 Classic Cars Company.jpg3.14 MB
