The Appeal
The Triumph T160 Trident was the final and most refined evolution of the celebrated BSA/Triumph triple. Featuring an inclined engine, electric starter, and five-speed gearbox, the T160 represented the pinnacle of Meriden's engineering. With approximately 7,500 built in total, surviving examples are increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
This matching-numbers example bears engine and frame number XN06994, confirming manufacture in December 1976, one of the last 210 T160s to leave the factory. Originally supplied to the Saudi Arabian Defence Force, it was imported to the UK and first registered in April 1979. Its second keeper, who owned the bike from 1983, toured extensively across France, Spain, Andorra, Switzerland, Germany, and the Benelux countries during the mid-1980s, with the engine rebuilt using new barrels and pistons in 1984 ahead of those continental adventures.
Purchased by the current owner in 2020 after some 32 years off the road, the bike has since undergone an extensive overhaul covering the engine, electrics, braking system, wheels, and running gear, with full details listed below. The petrol tank has been repainted in Cherokee Red Candy, whilst the original frame paint is retained. The vendor states it starts on the button and cruised comfortably at motorway speeds when last used. Having been off the road for a further two years, recommissioning will be required, with some items noted as needing attention. A comprehensive list of all work completed and parts used accompanies the sale, offering the next owner a clear picture of what has been done and what remains.
