The Appeal
The Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 holds a unique place in Ferrari's history as the marque's first mid-engined V8 production car, and the only road-going Ferrari to wear Bertone styling, penned by none other than Marcello Gandini. Long overshadowed by its Pininfarina-designed siblings, the GT4 is now rightly celebrated as a clever, characterful piece of 1970s design, and values have risen accordingly. With only 547 examples understood to have been built in right-hand drive, it is almost as rare in this configuration as the revered Dino 246 GT.
This June 1978 example, supplied new by Emblem Sports Cars of Dorset, is finished in Blu Sera over a cream leather interior with blue velour cloth centre panels, an attractive and period-appropriate combination. It retains its original-style Campagnolo alloys and is equipped with electric windows, air conditioning, a manual sunroof, and an updated Continental stereo.
What sets this car apart is its remarkably well-documented history. An extensive file tracks every known change of keeper and references all invoices held, with maintenance carried out by respected Ferrari specialists including Rosneath Engineering, Foskers, Nick Cartwright, and Kent High Performance Cars. The car's provenance was further cemented when it appeared on the cover of Classic & Sports Car in May 2016, where it was pitched against the Lamborghini Urraco. The most recent service was completed in November 2022, following a cambelt service in 2020. For the next owner, this is a genuinely rewarding mid-engined Ferrari with the history and character to match.
