The Appeal
The S model finally gave the 986 Boxster the power to match its beautifully balanced dynamics. Add this car’s manual gearbox, and you have one of the best and most entertaining two-seater roadsters of the last 30 years.
Beyond the appealing specification and silver-over-black colour scheme, this car’s calling card is its impressive service history. The service book shows a run 16 stamps by main dealers and specialists, right up to May 2026. The IMS bearing was replaced at 94,000 miles. The current MOT runs to May 2027 with no advisories.
This is a very tidy and clearly well-cared-for example of the increasingly sought-after early Boxster S.
The vendor says:
"I have all the receipts for the parts and, where applicable, work carried out. You will notice that the IMS and rear oil seal were checked at 94000 miles and have shown no issues since then.
In short, I've loved this vehicle since I bought it. I'm selling to get an SLK R172 55 AMG because I fancy a V8 while they are still available."

The vendor says:
"The sat nav works, albeit the disc is not the most up-to-date, as they are not available from Porsche. It has factory-fitted reversing sensors, which aid in restricted spaces. The PMC 1 works fully, as do the CD changer (it comes with three by six CD holders), the tape deck, and the radio. Interestingly, the 2002 phone system still works; however, I am not sure it can still connect through 3G (the GiffGaff SIM still connects, but only for 999, as I've got it set up). The time works, but I haven't been able to get the date to be correct. I understand that is a factor of Porsche not supporting old technology.
"Since I have owned the vehicle, it has only been driven in the summer months. I covered approx 2500 miles per year. In the winter, it has been stored inside, and any work has been done then.
"To my knowledge, the only fault is the remote oil sensing, which was on the list for this winter. It has a dipstick, so oil quantity is not a problem.
"The coolant reservoir is new, as are the alternator, water pump, thermostat, engine water hoses (front radiators inspected and cleaned), cam belt, and battery; all this work has been carried out since I have owned the vehicle. One roof cable has been replaced, as have the boot struts. The wheels were refurbished and the tyres replaced in 2023. They are Davanti's, which came out as an all-round mid-range tyre which was felt suitable for a vehicle of this age and my driving style.
"There have been a couple of age-related paint chips repaired. The roof is showing signs of its age and has had one small professional repair to the rear clear plastic."

Was the IMS bearing "checked" or "replaced" at 94k miles?

SellerI do know the clutch and associated bearings seals etc were done so I suppose its reasonable to assume everything was well looked at whilst things were stripped down
