The Appeal
The last word in American luxury motoring. Glorious exterior styling, oceans of gleaming chrome work and some rather space age technological features for the time, it could only be a Cadillac. The very personification of The American Dream on wheels, the Sedan De Ville gave Cadillac a reputation and client list others could only aspire to, and to this day leaves a legacy as one of the all time great American luxury automobiles, hailing from a time when bigger and grander always meant better.
An exceedingly rare fifth generation Sedan De Ville, this marvellous 1958 model really is a special car. Sitting proudly in its pink and chrome splendour, this executive cruiser is certainly one of the finer examples of the coveted model this side of the water. In brilliant mechanical and aesthetic order, this cool caddy is the ideal statement piece for any collection, heritage fleet or to see potential use as a wedding or events car.

The Interior
- Well presented interior space
- In good, highly original standing
- Quality red leather upholstery throughout
Vast, stylish, brilliantly comfortable. Perhaps the three best ways to surmise the cabin of a Sedan De Ville. A notion to which this particular car is no exception. Impeccably upholstered in a blend of deep red leather and black upholstery, the interior space is in truly fine form and indicates careful use from its current and previous keepers.
As with everything on the Cadillacs of this era, the interior is big, and of course bold. Taking precedence in the front and rear are sumptuous two tone bench seats which can comfortably fit three adults with ease, the upholstery is of a good presentable standard and presents as such with minimal light blemishing and an honest patina to it.
Four well upholstered door panels can be found at the sides of the cabin, draped in more quality upholstery and exquisite chrome embellishments; all four of the panels are of a similar quality to the aforementioned bench seating with just a light patina exhibiting here.
This is an impressively original cabin to say the least and that goes right the way down to the interior mouldings and switchgear, including the factory electric window controls and iconic horizontal speedometer. Just some auxiliary chrome gauges and an upgraded radio head unit looks to be alterations from standard but suit the cabin well. The rest of the interior switchgear and that previously mentioned are in fine fettle and present as such, much of which still boasting a quality chrome finish.
A plush deep red carpet coats the vast cabin floor of the Caddy and is in good standing, still rich in colour and lacking in signs of excessive footfall, with protective red overmats looking to have performed their job well. Moving to the rear of the car we find a simply huge rear boot area, draped in yet more quality carpet, this time in a deep black hue, but of a similarly good standard.
The Exterior
- Quintessential 1950s American automotive styling
- In good largely original order
- Finished in a dashing pink colour scheme
It’s the sort of thing that belongs in a museum of art. Designed to be as extravagant and bold as those who were snapping them up off of the Cadillac forecourts in the US, there is nothing quite as extraordinary or flamboyant as a Sedan De Ville. From an aesthetics perspective they really are unrivalled, boasting a long pillarless design, dripping with high quality chrome and exhibiting styling excess in its finest form.
What is perhaps most notable about this particular car is the colour scheme. A classic pale pink hue coats the long flowing lines of the Caddy to really make it stand out with a contrasting darker pink roof panel. Whether it be in the sunshine or a more overcast setting this paint pops and looks wonderful, presenting with just some light marking and patina in areas.
The exterior chrome work is of a similarly high standard, exuding a wonderful shine from nearly every angle. There are some areas presenting with some light patina and flawing but make no mistake, this is high quality chrome trim.
Stand out pieces may well be the front and rear bumpers; vast, sculpted and undeniably handsome, these wonderful pieces really work to set the car off that little bit further and compliment a selection of design features exclusively found on this generation of the model. In an interesting and less commonly seen touch, we find a tow bar has been fitted to the rear of the Cadillac.
At ground level we find four excellent and incredibly rare chrome Cadillac hubcaps housed over black steel wheels. In great shape, these are paired with a great set of quintessentially 1950s white wall tyres, which are of a similarly clean quality.
The Mechanics
- In great overall mechanical order
- Solid 365cu Cadillac V8 motor
- Underside appears clean and solid
All fifth generation Series 62s came fitted with an impressive 365 cubic inch 6.0 litre V8 engine from the factory and with this being such an original unmodified car, it comes as no surprise to report that that is what still resides under the vast pink bonnet of this car.
The engine itself presents in good clean form and fires into life comfortably and with ease, with a subtle V8 engine note coming from the rear mounted exhausts. Mated to a sumptuous automatic transmission the vendor reports a wonderful driving experience from the Cadillac. Smooth, unadulterated 1950s luxury.
Underneath appears to be clean and solid, in a similarly high quality to the exterior and interior of the car.
Summary
It’s not often a car sells itself on appearances alone but the Sedan De Ville certainly does a marvellous job of just that.
Hailing from an era of extravagance this metallic pink masterpiece is a very special car indeed. Undoubtedly one of the finer examples of a Sedan De Ville here in the UK it screams of those glory days of jet age design and The American Dream.
In great, presentable aesthetic and mechanical order, with a great deal of originality, this all American luxury cruiser is ready to be enjoyed at the hands of a new loving owner, whether that be as part of a collection or perhaps even in a vintage hire fleet.
Certainly, this is a car that holds great potential and endless opportunities.
