1972 Range Rover 'Suffix A'

Highlights

  • Suffix A chassis number, making it one of the very first production Range Rovers
  • Comprehensive rebuild carried out in 2016 by an Approved Land Rover repairer
  • Less than 500 miles covered since the rebuild
  • Voluntary MOT to 28th June 2027 with no advisories

The Appeal

The term 'Suffix A' is sure to prick the ears of any Land Rover enthusiast. It of course refers to the earliest three-door Range Rovers, the very beginning of one of the most important lineages in British motoring. As one of the earliest production examples, a Suffix A represents the genesis of a vehicle that defined the luxury off-road segment and still does today. Early examples like this UK home market Tuscan Blue car are increasingly prized by collectors.
Our car was originally supplied new by Ranleigh Garage of St Austell, a Rover main dealer, and spent its working life on a Cornish farm before being discovered in a barn in a dilapidated state. In 2016, it was entrusted to Roger Young Land Rover, an Approved Land Rover repairer in Cornwall, for a comprehensive rebuild. The chassis was shot-blasted, repaired and repainted, the engine was rebuilt, and all axles and brakes were overhauled. Extensive bodywork was undertaken using painstakingly sourced new-old-stock panels, with paintwork completed at an Approved Land Rover bodyshop. The interior was professionally recovered using period-correct materials in the correct colour and trim. Since completion, the vehicle has covered fewer than 500 miles and has been stored in a heated warehouse.

Now recommissioned and presented for sale, it has also been voluntarily MOT tested, resulting in an advisory-free pass. The vendor describes it as running beautifully and driving exactly as a 1970s Range Rover should.
