The Appeal
The E-Type has become something of a pop-culture legend, and it's well-deserved. Hailed as one of the most beautiful cars ever built, the long-nosed, open-grilled roadster has had more than its fair share of movie appearances and has become almost synonymous with the heady days of mid-century optimism.
The Series 3 represents the final and most powerful chapter of the Jaguar E-Type, thanks in no small part to the impressive 5.3-litre V12 under the distinctive bonnet. The 2+2 convertible configuration offers the best of both worlds: the drama of open-top motoring with the added practicality of occasional rear seating, and this example comes with a removable hard-top for year-round versatility.
This left-hand drive 1973 example presents in a striking combination of off-white paintwork over red leather upholstery, complemented by wire-spoke wheels - a specification that looks every bit the part on the French Riviera, where it is currently based. We're informed that the car has been very well maintained by a specialist classic-car garage and that everything works as it should. The handsome proportions of the E-Type remain as timeless as they are quintessentially 60s. That sleek, curvaceous frame looks fast and agile even when standing still, and here, they come to us just as neat and tidy as their designers intended. We can't spot any significant dents or dings, the paintwork is in fine overall order and there's only small pockets of patina commensurate with its advancing years.
Internally, the red leather upholstery is well-presented, instruments clean and legible and the dashboard in fine order. The carpets look in good condition, right through to the boot, and all of the switches and buttons look in fine condition. image.png1.18 MB

The V12 was one of the largest engines Jaguar ever packed under a car's nose, and the E-Type took this impressive unit in its stride. 272bhp was advertised, along with a top speed breaching 150mph. The car became a remarkably laid-back, comfortable cruiser, howling with a sonorous soundtrack and eagerly responding to the driver's input.
