THE APPEAL

As we appreciate, the VW Camper Van became hugely popular during the 1950’s and ’60’s. Their versatile design was ideal for a multitude of commercial uses and family leisure pursuits.

The updated T2 ‘early bay’ model came along in 1968 and was soon followed by the ‘late bay’ from 1973 (as we have here). Mechanical developments made the later versions more reliable, and significant safety features, such as crumple zones and improved brakes, were also incorporated.

Restored some years ago, this Westfalia conversion looks great in it’s period colour scheme, and unlike many, happily retains it’s original 4-berth Westfalia interior, featuring a rock and roll bed and cooking facilities. 240v power hook up is also fitted along with a leisure battery.

With a professional engine replacement (around 11,000 miles ago), and comprehensive maintenance history, this Camper should be good to go for many more miles to come.

Looking at an accompanying certificate from the Volkswagen Auto Museum, Wolfsburg, Germany, this VW camper left the Hanover factory on the 25th January 1973 and was duly delivered to the Ramsgate docks.

Originally Oriental Blue and Pastel White, it spent many years in the West Country until moving to Hampshire with the current owner in 2012.

The owner has enjoyed numerous family holiday trips throughout the U.K. and Europe during the last eleven years, but It is now time to move onto another classic.

THE INTERIOR

In the rear we discover the fabulous Westfalia fitments, wood-effect trim and features that so often get lost in time. The seating/rock and roll bed is in good condition and the original cooker, sink and fridge are in place, although they will need recommissioning and a safety check.

Fold down tables and a swivel table provide flexibility, and several cupboards including a wardrobe, offer ample storage space. The ‘fun zone’ is of course in the pop-up roof area which kids, in particular, will enjoy sleeping in.

SUMMARY

The VW Camper Van always attracts attention and is a great means of escape for a weekend break, holiday, or simply to enjoy driving to classic V-dub events - of which there are many.

This appealing camper isn’t quite mint but it’s overall condition, recent mechanical expenditure and Westfalia originality make it a great usable (and affordable) partner. Go have some fun!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
