The GT750 was born out of the need for Suzuki to carve a name out for itself in the growing capacity market. Bikes were getting bigger, and these were the heydays of the mighty 2-strokes. The release date was pushed back a few times, and the word on the street was that release was delayed so that Suzuki could catch up to their rivals. Expectation was so high for the bike- and it should have been since it was developed by Etsuo Yokouchi who was responsible for the RG500 GP bike. What was unveiled was so different from what the competition were doing, and in some ways the GT750 pushed some firsts.

The motor was a unique affair - with a 739cc 2-stroke triple. Most bikes at the time are inline-4s or twins. This was a big capacity 2-stroke that was pushing out 70bhp, with a fairly heavy 219kg. Being a 1974 model year, this bike benefited from some additional improvements on the original GT750, with new twin disc brakes up front, 3bhp more power, raised gearing and redesigned pipes for more ground clearance. The result was better handling and performing machine overall.

It was evident that Suzuki really knew what they were doing with this motor, and what they produced was a 2-stoke that plenty of fun but had some real capability as a tourer. The triple provides a nice broad, a fairly flat power band for a 2-stroke, and the high weight actually helps with high speed stability. The dashboard was pretty well equipped for the time, with a gear position indicator, fuel gauge and rev counter. The seat is also incredibly plush and comfortable, with ample room for a pillion.

The model we have here is in need of some serious TLC. From the pictures you can see, it has lots of corrosion and rust marks. It needs someone who can see the potential in anything, and someone who enjoys a challenge who will find joy in restoring such a lovely machine to its glory days. It would be a shame for this bike not to be picked up since it has serious potential. The seat is in good condition with no rips or tears.
