The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was launched in 1965. Early cars were fitted with a 6250cc version of the V8, similar to that fitted to the outgoing Cloud. They are sometimes known as the “Chippendale dash” models and are relatively rare.
This car is perhaps one of the oldest surviving Shadows, chassis number SRH1064, indicating that it was the 63rd off the production line. The mileage is correct at just 60, 000 from new supported by old MOT’s going back to 1976 and service stamps up to 1981 when the mileage was 47, 000.
This car is something of a find – it is in remarkably original condition and as far as we can see it has never been welded or repaired. The body is in excellent condition but the paint on the upper sections is a little dull and thin in places and there are one or two minor imperfections. The pushrod V8 is quiet and very smooth and the GM Hydramatic gearbox changes up and down smoothly. We have just replaced the points, (both sets) condenser, HT leads and spark plugs and carried out one or two other minor jobs and the car has recently fitted with a new radiator. We have also completed a couple of hundred test miles after a period of little use. The interior trim, as you can see from the photos is in generally good but original condition.
This Rolls comes with a remarkable history file including the aforementioned service book and old MOT’s, original delivery note, radio instructions, even the stamped addressed envelope from Crewe for the first owner to send the guarantee forms back. It is in smart and presentable condition and will only increase in value if the next owner decides to invest a couple of thousand on cosmetic improvements.
