Introduced in 1971 the original Rolls Royce Corniche Convertible came to epitomize luxury open-air motoring and it continued in production under various guises until 1995. The model was assembled and finished in London at coachbuilders 'Mulliner Park Ward' and it draws its name from the French and Italian term for a 'Corniche' - a coastal road and most notably the Grande Corniche along the French Riviera above the principality of Monaco.
Powered by a 6750cc V8 Engine mated to a 3 speed Automatic Transmission, it was equipped with four-wheel independent suspension with coil springs and a hydraulic self-levelling system (similar to Citroën, but without pneumatic springs) built under licence by Rolls-Royce.
This lovely example - Chassis No: DRH10186 was ordered new by Billy Smart Junior (of Billy Smart's Circus fame) and was specially ordered in Magenta with Cream Leather upholstery, Cream Wilton carpets and a Cream Soft top for his wife Hannelore Nagel and it was first registered on 14th April 1971. They owned the car for 8 years until it was sold and purchased by the current owner for his wife in 1979.
He had the car repainted in Black in March 1981 and he has kept the car ever since. It has only covered a genuine 52, 960 miles and it has been taken out of his garage every year for a new MOT and driven no more than 10-15 miles each year before being put back in its centrally heated garage and this is confirmed by the MOT history which indicates that It has only covered 364 miles in the last 12 year and it passed the current MOT in March 2018 with no advisories!
The car is in beautiful condition throughout and really does drive superbly well. It needs to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated.
