Descripción

Triumph Stag 1975 Auto in Maple Brown. Reg. No. KLY117P
with optional Laminated Windscreen and “Sundym” glass

Six owners before me, two being husband and wife, who purchased new in August 1975.

There are two folders of history.

One contains the original purchase invoice which states that £35. 00 extra was paid to have the bodywork protected with “Cadulac” which I understand was a type of “Waxoyl” treatment. This and the subsequent “Waxoyling” itself mentioned below accounts for the really solid chassis/ bodywork.
Following this invoice is a meticulous history of every detail of expenditure until March 1995 when the car was sold to owner no. 3 The mileage then was recorded as “just under 72, 000”

There are two major items of expenditure to mention:-

Firstly, in September 1980 at 26, 075 miles, the original V8 was replaced with a new Ford “Essex” 3. 0 litre V6 by Hurley Motor Engineering of Coventry. This followed an overheating episode which warped the heads. This company at the time specialised in fitting New Ford engines into Stags.

Secondly, in September 1992 at 69, 000 miles new inner and outer wheel arches supplied by PRG, Triumph parts specialists, were welded in and the car resprayed in 2 tone brown and waxoyled. There a photo record of the work done as well as the receipts.

Later in her life she was sprayed again all over in current single colour brown two pack but there is no written record of when. One of the two intervening owners before me must have had this done

I purchased in May 2017 at 84, 500 miles from a local Classic Car enthusiast who had owned her for five years and kept her in a heated commercial vehicle repair and maintenance workshop. She was seldom used, normally just MOT and back but she was recommissioned prior to sale by the workshop manager.

This involved:-

New radiator, hoses, thermostat and water pump.
New oil cooler and pipes.
New front discs and pads.
New rear brake cylinders and shoes.
New plugs, points, condenser, leads, screen washer pump and wipers.
New engine core plugs.
New accelerator cable.
New high torque starter.

A replacement reconditioned Automatic Gearbox in August 2015 at 84, 391 miles is also recorded on file.

In my ownership the oil and filter have been changed and a new SU electric fuel pump fitted. Also the Weber carburettor has been tuned / re-jetted by a specialist Classic garage

The MOTs are on file from 1978 to date.

Current mileage is 85, 414 and is genuine backed my the MOTs. .

Tyres are all matching Firestone 175/ 80 R14 with very adequate tread. The alloy spare, also a Firestone, has good tread and is fully serviceable.

The original radio has been replaced by a premium Sony radio/ cd player and there are four discrete speakers, two in front door cards and two in the rear cards. The aerial is electrically operated.

The hood and its rear window are in extremely good condition showing very little signs of use. The frame, although perfectly usable needs a small welding repair to the pivot eyes on either side where it abuts the windscreen.

The hardtop which came new with the car has some paint blistering and the lining has a tear above the front passenger seat. A new lining is less than £70 delivered and is an easy DIY job

Bodywork is sound throughout and chrome work all good except for the front bumper which has a few rust blemishes to the n/ s and a slight bend in the centre. The alloy wheels are presentable but have odd patches of oxidation which could be easily removed by an alloy wheel refurbisher.

Upholstery is free from wear, rips and tears and the stitching all good. Carpets are clean and unworn and have been long covered with overmats.

The twin exhausts are stainless steel throughout.

The insurance Agreed Value is £12, 000

I also have another Classic car, a Rover P6B, my wife's favourite, but because my wife no longer drives we have reluctantly decided to let this lovely cherished Triumph pass into another enthusiast's ownership.

The MOT was renewed on 21st September with no advisories. (Although MOT and, of course, Road Tax, exempt)
