Description
Morris Oxford SIII – Restored Car one of the best...
The Series III Oxford was introduced in 1957. With fluted bonnet, small tail fins, optional two tone paint work and leather front bench seat/ trim the car was a mix of transatlantic styling and traditional British lounge. Today nice examples are exceptionally rare and highly desirable.
We recently visited a local retired engineer to view/ buy one car and simply could not resist this absolutely gorgeous Oxford that was at the back of his garage.
Taken out of long-term in 2002 the car was stripped to a shell and completely restored. The original 1500cc engine was replaced with a later 1622cc unit and mated to twin SU carburettors with a new unleaded cylinder head. All mechanical components were inspected and replaced as necessary (new clutch, brakes, suspension etc.)
Any corrosion was removed from the chassis/ bodywork with new metal let in and just about all the shiny bits have been re-chromed The interior was also re-trimmed with new red leather seats, headlining, door-cards, carpets etc.
The project took two years but the final result is an absolute testament to the skill and commitment of the owner – it is simply stunning. Completed over ten years ago the car drives without fault (the 1622cc engine with floor change is well suited to modern roads) and the two-tone paint work has a deep shine with only the odd blemish commensurate with light summer use – she has toured France on numerous occasions.
The history folder contains original buff log book, handbook, BMC service book & Morris Warranty, a variety of invoices and pictures of the restoration.
Cars of this quality rare come to market and we simply could not resist her charm - she will give years of pleasure to the lucky new owners.
