Finished in its original colours of Healey Blue over Ivory, this Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8 Phase two was despatched from the Abingdon factory on 20thMay 1964 to Lathams Limited of Leister, UK. As chassis H-BJ8/ 26898 this is one of just 1, 038 original RHD Phase II cars out of a total of 16, 322 Phase IIs produced.
This Healey underwent a full body and mechanical restoration in 1998 and later received further cosmetic refreshment in 2011. The car is very highly specified, with a Rawles Motorsport high specification rebuild to the original engine in July 2013. The specification of the rebuild included a Denis Welch aluminium head ported and polished, performance road camshaft, a lightened flywheel, crankshaft dampener, alloy backplate, upgraded rear oil seal and spin on oil filter. The motor was fully balanced and newly machined plus received an upgraded cooling system with Revotec electronic fan.
In 2012 we hand crafted a mohair hood with mohair hood bag, each fitted to the unique contours of the car, whilst straightening out and refitting the original roof frame for improved fit and weather-proofing over factory standard.
In 2001 the car was fitted with a Getrag 5-Speed. These 5-speed gearboxes provide a vast increase of the efficiency with which power is delivered, increasing acceleration, top speed, cruise comfort and range. Quite notably these gearboxes greatly decrease cockpit heat and noise levels.
As such the very high specification of this Healey makes it the perfect road-trip car.
