Designed for the average Frenchman to get into a motorcar, the Citroën Deux Chevaux prototypes, or then known as the TPV were set to be unveiled in 1939, however due to the Nazi invasion of France this had to be put on hold. After World War II, the 2CV was officially released in 1948 and didn’t stop for the next 42 years.
Receiving popular approval in the rural world for its go-everywhere suspension, the 2CV was adored by the low earners for its unbeatable price and for what it represented; a car beyond time, beyond fashion and which knew every variation.
By the 1970’s, the Deux Chevaux gained many improvements including rear light units, individual seats, three-point seat belts, padded single-spoke steering wheel, ashtrays and offered with an optional 602cc displacement renamed the 2CV 6.
