.................................. SORRY, RESERVED FOR MARTYN........................
....................................... Airheads URGENTLY required.............................
Just arrived, and i suspect one that will appeal to both the die hard traditional BMW man, and also the custom builder.
The bike had been in storage for a couple of years when we collected it, so had the usual dead battery, gummed up carbs, etc. However, what was also clearly apparent, was that this was a very original, VERY low mileage BMW.
Back at the unit, we stripped the carbs, introduced fresh fuel, and a jump pack saw the bike burst into life. After checking brakes, lights, etc, i gave the bike a run out, and although it was only a few miles, it was obvious that it rode as well as the low mileage would suggest. Non of the usual boxer smoke on start up, oil and charge lights extinguished as they should, and clutch, gearbox and brakes were all spot on.
The ultra low mileage of 26000 is supported by MOTs and invoices in the large history file, and the bike has had a number of expensive upgrades over the years. These include full Keihan stainless exhaust (including the centre “H” section), stainless pushrod tubes, crashbars, factory luggage, cast floating disc, etc
Now i’m Busy with a couple of restorations at the moment, (R90S, and R100) so we’ve decided to initially offer the bike “as is”. So rather than us investing in new battery, servicing, etc, etc, and then have to reflect the work in an increased retail price, we’re offering the bike at what we think is a VERY realistic price for a machine of this quality. The only negatives that we’ve picked up on are largely cosmetic. There is a small dent in the offside silencer, the paint on the front of the front mudguard has been poorly touched in, the tank paint is rubbing trough at the rear, and she could do with a good clean. As i say, she’s mechanically spot on, and consumables such as tyres, brakes, clutch, etc, are great. A new battery will be the only significant expense. (If needed, we can supply one at cost).
All in all, a rare opportunity to acquire a low mileage, nicely patinated old boxer, that has absolutely bags of potential. It would also be noted that this has been a factory naked R80 from new, and not a stripped RT, so has the correct headlight “ears”. At this combination of price and quality, it should appeal to the traditional Airhead man, as well as someone looking to build a custom.
The pics are of the bike as it arrived, so if you’d like a more detail or specific shots, please just shout.
