The XKE is widely regarded by many as the most beautiful car produced of all time . It was a pretty significant departure in design for Jaguar, who at the time had not built a low slung “sports car” for the mainstream market. Alongside the E-type were many major engineering feats that also had not been seen in a mass market vehicle. Independent front and rear suspension, front and rear sub frames bolted to a Unibody chassis, and rack and pinion steering were just a few. The E-type was a revolutionary car in its age, and is still cherished by many as one of the most significant cars of the 20th century.
Presented here is an early example of the Jaguar XKE, chassis number 914. This particular car has been sitting since the early 1980s indoors in a dry climate. While the paint and interior are not completely original to the car, they are in very nice condition and present very well. All of the original “early” features that came from the factory are still present on this XKE. The chassis on this car is in excellent condition. There is no rust present on the car at all. Under the bonnet lives the original, numbers matching 3. 8L inline six coupled to the 4 speed manual transmission.
This vehicle is in quite remarkable shape considering how long it has sat. It is a testament to how important it is to keep a car in a shady dry environment. Luckily the vehicle is not missing any pieces, especially as there are many rare components specific to early XKE's. Since the car has been sitting for a number of years it could benefit greatly from some service work. The engina has been inspected and started via an external fuel tank, and sounds healthy and produces good oil pressure numbers. However, in order to get it to run on its own the fuel system would need cleaned and gone through. With a little bit of love and TLC this car could be an excellent early model XKE for someone to drive.
