Description
You're looking at the only mark 1 Colt Celeste, and the only 2000GT, on the road in the UK. This is a super-rare, beautiful, and brilliant car.
I’ve owned her about 6 years, and she’s best car I’ve ever had - guaranteed head-turner, super reliable (I once drove her from Bristol to the far end of Cornwall and back in a weekend) and a great laugh, especially on a wet roundabout. She's nearly 43, though, and could use more attention than I’m able to give her, hence this reluctant sale.
The good bits:
Mechanically rock-solid - only 85, 000 miles, and starts first (or second) time, every time, great oil pressure, clutch and gearbox are fine, etc
Full custom stainless steel exhaust from Infinity near Bristol about 4 years ago
Recored original radiator 2 years ago - runs super-cool, even at high speeds over long distances
Pertronix electronic ignition built by Accuspark 3 years ago - this fits inside the original distributor cap, so you could return it to stock (but don’t, it’s amazing)
New battery, cambelt, oil filter, etc
3” Lowering springs at the front and 2” blocks at the back for a more purposeful stance - reversible if you can find some original front coils
Period-correct 14” Wolfrace slotmags
Interior bits all still work - heater, original radio, electric windows (non-original).
New head unit hidden behind the dash, wired to four new speakers - plug your phone in with the aux lead for modern sound without spoiling the retro look
Most of the original toolkit’s still there
The less-good bits - I've tried to list everything here, so it looks like loads, but it's all as you'd expect for an unrestored car of this age - nothing to worry unduly about:
Some of the bodywork’s frillier than it should be. I had some welding done for her last MOT two years ago, and the arches, bonnet, front wings and tailgate are all a bit bubbly.
Bumpers could do with re-chroming.
General age-related battle scars to the bumpers, a little dent in the nearside rear wing.
Someone’s fitted new door mirrors at some point - they’re a bit wobbly and have left little screw holes in the tops of the doors.
Before I had her someone did a pretty terrible respray - not enough lacquer in places, not enough paint in others. It'd be worth redoing.
Remote central locking (non-original) doesn’t work, so you have to use the key, but that’s how it should be anyway.
Sundry rattles and squeaks.
There are two ammeters (the original and an after-market one), and neither of them works properly.
Handbrake and ignition lights on the dash don’t work
The upholstery’s generally pretty worn out, and is ripped on the driver’s seat bolster.
Carpet's a bit ratty
The car comes with a stack of spare parts and extras, including:
5 x original 13” steel wheels and 4 original centre caps
Spare gear lever and linkage
Spare instrument cluster / centre console
Window winders
Original driver’s side door mirror
Chrome trim for roof gutters
Door cards (black, but apparently can be dyed)
Loads of documentation - the original bill of sale, MOTs, receipts, etc.
Genuine Mitsubishi workshop manual
Period Denso roof rack
When I bought her everyone said I was brave (they meant stupid), but she’s been a breeze to own. Consumables are pretty easy to find on eBay, and she’s never had to go to the garage for any mechanical problems. She’s pretty cheap to run - registered as a historic vehicle, so no tax or MOTs required, and my classic car insurance is only £135 a year including breakdown cover.
Because this car's so rare, it's really hard to value - I'm open to sensible offers. Give me a call or send me an email if you’d like to come and have a look or have any questions. Only genuine enquiries though please, and no joyriders.
Thanks!
