We helped a good friend of ours purchase this beautiful Healey 3000 Mk1 nine years ago and it was advertised as 'Probably the Best On The Market'. It is may be in even better condition now as the owner has lavished care and attention, and not a little money, keeping it in top order and has used AH specialists, Orchard Restorations near Heathfield in Sussex, to maintain the car.
It is a BT7, 2+2 3000 with twin carburettors and is fitted with a four speed gearbox with overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears.
This matching numbers example was exported to California in 1959 and returned to the UK in the early nineties whereupon it was treated to a total body-off restoration. The body was in good condition and only required new floor pans, one inner sill and the door skins replacing which is, no doubt, why this car has excellent shut lines throughout. The engine was overhauled and the gearbox rebuilt and a new clutch was fitted. The suspension, steering and brakes were either renewed or overhauled as were the carburettors and a new interior with dark red leather seats piped black, was fitted including new instruments. New bumpers went on and the rest of the chrome was re-done, a new hood and tonneau were fitted and the Healey was treated to new 72 spoke wire wheels and Avon tyres (another new set of Avons went on 1, 200 miles ago)
There is a large history file documenting this and 120 photographs starting from when the car as it arrived and going through right to when the build was completed two years later.
The car has overdrive on 3rd and 4th gear, an electric engine fan, wire wheels, seat belts front and rear, full weather gear, a Heritage Certificate and a lovely, tailor made, soft car cover in red.
Having covered just over 9, 000 miles since it was restored, this gorgeous Austin Healey remains in fine order throughout and has the added bonus of driving beautifully. It has time to settle, newly restored cars are often hard and lack feel, and has been fastidiously maintained by Austin Healey specialists Orchard Restorations including rebuilding the gearbox and a brake overhaul in summer 2018.
