The Mercedes-Benz R170 SLK was conceived as a modern equivalent of the original 190SL roadster of the 1950s, with which it shared a 94 inch wheelbase. This was also the car that introduced the world to the wonders of the mass produced vario folding roof, a genius piece of design that allows this car to switch between tin top and no top at the flick of a switch.
The name SLK was derived from sportlich (sporty), leicht (light), and kurz (short). It was the first Mercedes-Benz to wear an SL in the nameplate and carry a four cylinder engine since the 190SL.
Showing just shy of 70, 000 miles, this car is in the iconic Mercedes-Benz colour scheme of silver paintwork with black leather, complimented by the carbon look interior. Many of these early SLKs left the factory in what can only be described as ‘interesting’ colour combinations… Finding an early car that is so well presented is getting extremely difficult. An early car can be distinguished by the black painted sills and front / rear bumper apron.
