1937 Alvis 12/ 70 with 4 light Sports Saloon coachwork by Mulliner of Birmingham
A comparatively rare model, the Alvis 12/ 70 was produced from September 1937 until early 1940, with a run of just 741. Three coachwork styles were available: 4 light Sports Saloon, 4 seat Tourer, or Drophead Coupe.
The power unit was a 1. 9 litre ohv, driving through a synchromesh gearbox.
Fixtures and fittings were of the usual high standard associated with this manufacturer. When road tested, the motoring press praised the smoothness and quietness of running, plus the stability of the ride.
The example presented here is almost certainly one of the finest survivors of the Sports Saloon.
She was restored by Red Triangle between 1999 and 2002 at a cost of £52, 000 and the quality of the restoration was clearly exemplary as the overall condition of the car is superb. All of the restoration work is fully documented and there are numerous photographs.
The previous owner had the car for over 50 years – it is rare to find such long-term ownership.
Since the completion of the restoration, only around 3000 miles have been covered, this being substantiated by MOT Certificates.
Documentation also includes Buff log book and current V5C document. There is also an Original Alvis factory build sheet and original Alvis warranty document. Handbook and repair schedules and Parts manual are also supplied.
There are also photographs of the original owner and his son which add to the overall interesting history.
This motor car, which is capable of holding its own in modern traffic, would suit the most discerning purchaser. (Note: This car was produced in 1937 but wasn't registered until 1939)
