The 240z was Datsun's first foray into the mainstream sportscar market. Datsun had produced sports cars in the past, but they now wanted to compete with the Europeans, especially in the booming American market. The 240z was the start to one of the most successful lines of sports cars of all time, the Z car. Released in 1970 it's name stood for it's displacement, 2. 4 liters. This small sports car produced 151 horsepower out of its inline six. the series 1 240z ended in mid-1971, with the series II cars receiving slight cosmetic changes. Throughout the 240z's history it has been used for many purposes, ranging from road racing to rally, even winning the East African Rally in 1973. The 240z helped put Japan on the map for sports cars, proving that they were able to make more than small economy cars.
Presented here is an excellently preserved example of a early Series 2 240z. This car has been well maintained it's entire life, and it definitely shows. The car was repainted very well recently in its original color and looks great. The car is rolling on some period correct Panasport aluminum wheels, an option added at the dealer from when it was new.
The interior on this car is in excellent condition, the original vinyl dashboard is like new, showing no signs of fading or cracking whatsoever. It is obvious this car has been stored indoors it's whole life. The seats are in excellent condition, they have no tears but the drivers seat does show some foam degradation. Even the wood grain steering wheel is still in great condition, showing no signs of wear or abuse, all signs of an original, low mileage car. This car should be a bit of a testament to the build quality Datsun was shooting for when they built this car originally, they really wanted to show that they were a legitimate competitor.
