Beschreibung
Recently uncovered after 30 years in storage, this 1972 Mercedes 280 sedan is remarkably well-preserved and complete. Last registered in New Jersey in 1990, the car retains its gorgeous two-tone factory paint and light tan leather interior, along with a Becker Europa radio and A/ C.
The car’s interior is in particularly good shape, needing only final detailing and new floor pan carpets. Glass, seals, and trim are all intact and look excellent, while the dashtop and wood veneers are similarly tidy. The lovely set of VDO instruments are absolutely mint, while the speedo displays a likely accurate odometer reading of 91k miles. Out back, the trunk houses its original mat, spare, tools, and jack.
Outside, the car shows some wear and tear from storage, but is exceptionally dry and straight. The only notable rust is found behind the front wheels at the leading edge of the sills and along the base of the rear valence. The floors, trunk floor, spare tire well, and door bottoms are all in gorgeous shape. Overall much of the paint looks to be salvageable with simple dent repair and a good wet sanding, and the white portion of the roof is nearly flawless. Trim, brightwork, and hubcaps are all similarly well presented, though the car is missing its star hood ornament and one section of rub rail on the passenger rear door. Also, it looks like the trunk may have been forced open at some point, given a slight deformation along the trunk lid above the lock.
While not currently running, the Mercedes appears to have been stored well and still remains full of oil and complete under the hood. A look inside the valve cover reveals beautifully preserved innards--we believe the car may only need a fuel system overhaul (along with a good service) to run again. Brakes, suspension, and exhaust all appear similarly serviceable, while the old Michelins hold air and continue to be suitable for storage purposes. Please note the car does not come with keys, so the steering lock remains engaged (though it rolls freely and can be maneuvered easily with a pair of go-jacks). These can be replaced via Mercedes once the car is titled.
