The E21 is the first carnation of the BMW 3 Series and is often overlooked in favour of its successor, the E30. But times have changed and the E21’s retro looks and purity are seeing a huge rise in popularity.
This 1981 late-production 320 (also known as the 320/ 6) has just 54k miles with a large history file and started its life as a special order RHD model in Switzerland – ordered by a British ex-pat.
The bodywork, with its Hennarot red paintwork, is in beautiful condition and the freshly refurbished 13” BBS alloys add to the retro aesthetics.
Inside, the beige seats have been freshly retrimmed to compliment the rest of the interior which is in superb original condition, with its driver-focussed dashboard and original radio.
The 2. 0 engine (using the legendary M20 6-cylinder block) and 4 speed manual gearbox drive beautifully and the car has just had a major service plus new callipers, discs, pads, radiator, thermostat, hoses, suspension as well as a carb rebuild. It’s fair to say that the car needs nothing.
E21s are rarer, and arguably better looking, than their E30 counterparts, and fine examples like this one don’t appear on the market very often.
