I am selling this Rover 420 Tourer on the behalf of a friend. It was his intention to keep the Rover long term, but unfortunately a series of events have conspired against him. He was one of the early victims of Covid19 and ended up in hospital and on a ventilator for a long period. A stroke followed, which he is slowly recovering from, and he's losing his job at British Airways.... so there is a genuine reason for sale!
Resplendent in Tahiti Blue this 420 Tourer must be one of the best surviving examples. It's not a perfect example, but the condition is what you'd expect on a low mileage lightly used example. The interior is in superb condition with the only flaw being the rear section of the headlining, which has sagged, but held neatly in position with grey trim clips. Seats, door cards, woodwork. carpets and door cards are in excellent condition. The best part for me, the strange person I am, is that on a warm day it smells just like a new Rover!
Mechanically the Rover is near perfect. The Cambelt was changed recently. The last major service, mid 2019, included replacement of all the fluids :- Engine oil, transmission oil. coolant, brake fluid and even the screenwash.
Spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter and oil filter were all changed. The alternator and battery are recent replacements too.
MoT tested in mid July, with a few minor advisories, a small service was also carried out. The only slight mechanical fly in the ointment is slight brake judder under hard braking. Other than that it drives without fault! Instant starting (no sticking valves that can plague the Rover T Series during warm-up) and a quiet gearbox with a nice sporting shift. It is truly an absolute joy to drive with the lovely wave of torque that the 2 litre R8 provides.
In summary a real gem of a car that will surely appreciate in value. In all honesty i'd add it to my own collection of Rover Cars, but I have a 416 Tourer I bought when it was 4 years old and I don't use that!
Viewing is recommended.
