A genuine UK (rhd) car from 1959 which had been the subject of an earlier restoration prior to purchase in 2015. The car was fully stripped down to a bare shell, repaired as necessary and resprayed in the correct shade of Old English White again. All ‘closed’ panel sections were treated with Dinitrol preservative during assembly and then ‘Waxoyled after painting. A lightweight G. R. P. bonnet was fitted with bespoke forward hinging frame and stays.
The front suspension was completely stripped out and fitted with new wishbones, bushes, reconditioned stub axles, new wheel bearings, up-rated front shock absorbers, 5/ 8” anti roll bar, new wire wheel hubs and a lowering kit.
The brake system was totally rebuilt with new master cylinder, disc brakes, calipers and servo, with new pipework throughout. New rear cylinders (3/ 4” bore) to balance the system. Stainless over braided ‘Goodridge’ hoses all round.
The rear suspension and axle were stripped and rebuilt. New hub bearings and seals. Later 3. 7 : 1 ratio diff fitted for better high speed cruising and speedo re-calibrated to match.
The original 948cc engine was replaced with a ‘fast road’ spec 1275cc unit. The block was the stronger ‘thick flange’ spec. fully stripped and meticulously cleaned. All holes re-tapped; oilway plugs removed and oilways ‘rodded’ ; new plugs fitted. Over bored by . 040in. with high compression pistons, Kent 266 billet cam and followers, new HD bearings throughout, new uprated oil pump etc. Cylinder head ported and polished, with new guides, Kent valve springs and ‘unleaded’ exhaust valve seats. Flywheel machined to lighten to 5. 5KG. All balanced. Initial checks showed hot compressions to be 195psi.
A new ‘1275’ diaphragm clutch kit was fitted together with new slave cylinder and a remote bleed kit. The later spec. ‘ribbed’ gearbox was overhauled and the OE scroll seal machined out to fit a modern / uprated lip seal .
The carbs were changed to a pair of brand new 1/ 1/ 4” S. U’s and the exhaust to a 3 branch long centre branch manifold and big bore system. New electric fuel pump.
Internally the car was completely re-trimmed in red with new carpets and trim panels; Inertia reel seat belts; 14inch Moto-Lita wood rimmed steeringwheel; and both the rev counter and speedo were reconditioned. Quartz halogen headlights were fitted ; a Monza style locking fuel filler cap; and a pair of pillar mounted side mirrors. Full weather equipment was included with a red tonneau cover , hood and side screens.
