Meet Olga, a rather fun Volvo 131 2 door coupe in club rally spec.
Fitted with a tuned B20 engine running a high lift camshaft and twin carbs, this car offers very decent performance and coupled with its inherent strength it is easy to see why an Amazon is such a popular choice with the historic rallying fraternity.
Olga comes with a most interesting recent service history from Amazon Cars showing all the work that has been done to maintain the car and keep it performing so well. There are also references to events in which Olga has taken part including the famous Le Jog.
Aside from the engine much has been done including lowering the ride height and fitting progressive road rally springs, boot mounted aluminium fuel tank with twin Facet pumps, louvred bonnet, fuel and rear brake lines moved to inside the car and a full set of rally clocks mounted on the left of the dashboard.
More recent work includes the fitting of an electronic rev counter, front spot lights and a reconditioned overdrive gearbox. A Tudor Webasto sunroof has just been fitted at a cost of nearly £2, 000.
Olga looks very smart in Volvo dark green although it is right to point out there are a few blemishes here and there. Inside the front seats were replaced with those from an MG ZT – more suited to the purpose. More recently a BMW seat has been fitted on the driver’s side (very comfortable!) but the MG seat comes as a spare.
On the road the Volvo does not disappoint. Olga was driven approximately 80 miles here (including quite a lot of motorway for which the overdrive is invaluable) and drove extremely well with plenty of urge from the tuned engine and confidence inspiring road manners.
Overall, a desirable and stylish sports saloon with significant performance upgrades and ready for some enjoyable club motor sport for a very modest outlay.
