Description
Volvo 122S (Amazon) from 1958, original – Preserved and full of character
The Volvo 122S, best known as the Amazon, is one of the most iconic models in Volvo’s history. Launched in the mid-1950s, it embodied a new approach to the European family car: solid, safe, elegant and built to last. A car designed with rigour – and you can feel it still today.
This example dates from 1958, from the early production runs, and is identified in its paperwork as Amazon P1200V. An important detail for its historical context and authenticity, without taking away from the legend 122S as enthusiasts know it.
This vehicle is presented in largely original condition, seemingly never subjected to a full restoration – a characteristic rare on this model.
The interior is well preserved, with its original upholstery without tears or excessive wear. The mechanics are tidy and well maintained, with steady and coherent operation. It is fitted with new tyres and a period radio, accompanied by its original sealing plate – a detail uncommon and highly appreciated. The odometer reads 98, 294 km.
The paint shows natural signs of ageing: slight loss of gloss, a few blisters and localized spots of oxidation. For a flawless aesthetic, intervention will be required. For patina, authenticity and history enthusiasts, this is in fact a real asset.
The early Volvo Amazon series represent today a limited fraction of total production, which reinforces their historical interest and collector value. This example makes an excellent base for regular use, careful preservation, or light restoration, while preserving its original identity.
Vehicle certified as historically interesting by a Portuguese entity recognised by the F. I. V. A.
An honest, robust and timeless classic. A car built to last – and to be driven.
