Description
We are pleased to offer this freshly rebuilt Alvis 12/ 50.
First registered on 30th April 1931 in London, ‘GO 5762’ started life as a saloon and is understood to have been taken off the road in 1960. Having spent the intervening fifty five years in storage the car was acquired by the previous owner in 2016 who commenced a total restoration.
The original saloon body did not survive the 1970s, being deemed beyond repair. In its place the car now wears a brand new coach painted ash framed two seater body in the style of an Alvis ‘Beetleback’ which gives the car a pleasingly sporting appearance. There is a lockable cover in the tail which provides access to the battery and a generous stowage area for tools and luggage.
The mechanical aspects of the car have been meticulously rebuilt including the engine, axles, brakes and gearbox. This is evident from the excellent presentation of the car.
The interior features a mahogany dashboard housing correct instruments and a new marine ply floor. The seats are trimmed in black vinyl and presently there is no weather equipment.
The engine starts well and idles nicely with good oil pressure. Our test drive showed the car to have exemplary road manners with handling, steering and braking up to the standard one would expect of a high quality vintage car and it is easy to see why 12/ 50s have such a strong following. The engine runs very sweetly but will need careful running in before the renowned 12/ 50 performance can be used to the full.
The wings have been professionally sprayed black and present superbly as do the rebuilt wheels which are fitted with new tyres. A new stainless steel exhaust system is fitted.
All electrical items work and direction indicators are fitted.
Accompanying the car is a V5, buff log book, an original instruction book and a copy of Major Micky Radford’s comprehensive and indispensable workshop manual.
The Alvis is eligible for all manner of events including those of the VSCC . It is ready to enjoy and offers an inexpensive route into 12/ 50 ownership.
We would happily consider taking an interesting vehicle in part exchange.
