Up for sale is this early Mk2 and was built on 4th October 1967, which would make it one of the first batches of the Mk2 Mini. It was despatched on the 2nd November 1967 to Bridge Clock Motors in Coventry and was registered in January 1968. Colour was Maroon with a Sandy Beige interior which is its current colour scheme. I’ve ordered the factory build record from the Heritage Trust which confirms the above details and the chassis number matches. The chassis no states that this example was built at Longbridge. And on the dating side the wiper motor is stamped September 67. The Commission Number also matches the Heritage cert.
The Mini starts first time on the choke and the 998cc settles down to a nice idle. It drives really good with the engine holding good oil pressure. The gearbox changes nicely and the clutch doesn’t judder. Brakes perform as you’d expect for an old Mini with drums. On the road it nips along nicely and has that experience you can only get in an original Mini. The suspension rides well and it doesn’t crash about.
The interior is very original with the headliner, sun visors all present. The door cards are also original and the pull cords are present. A temporary carpet was fitted but the last owner.
Recent work on the car includes the following:
- Service with new plugs
- 4 new tyres
- Recent new exhaust
- New track rod end (plus few other small jobs sorted)
- MOT with no advisories (expires 21/ 01/ 21)
Cosmetically it does have some rust bubbles on the door bottoms and on the rear valance corner behind the back left wheel. The paint has reacted on the bonnet with some bubbles. But it does polish up nice and it certainly looks the part and attracts a lot of attention.
I am open to offers on the Mini, but please no low ballers. Payment is by bank transfer only.
