Reluctantly for sale is our much loved Renault Espace Mk2 that we have owned for the last 7 years.
He's a 2. 1TD RT Alize in Imperial Blue Metallic with a very clean Velour interior, original carpet mat set and only 112, 680 miles from new. The Espace owners on the Continent that we speak to on the Facebook Groups declare that he's not even run in yet as most of theirs have done 250-500k.
We bought him as a 'Cat D' Salvage car from the previous owner in 2014. This was after a truck had clipped the rear corner after it had been just been serviced and MOT'd. It was only the fibreglass panel and the window above that were damaged, there was no structural damage to the vehicle - we have photographic evidence of this and photos of the panel removed prior to the replacement panel from a donor car being fitted. The insurance company had agreed to repair it (having valued the car at over £3000), but as panels are no longer available, they had no choice but to declare as salvage. We repaired the car with a panel and glass from an identical model before putting him back on the road as my daily transport to replace my previous Renault Scenic (less said about that thing the better).
Sadly due to disability, and my need for an automatic car now, we have to pass him onto a new custodian. He is well known in the Renault Owners Club, Renault Classic Car Club and Matra Enthusiasts Club UK. He has also been on two holidays to France and one to the north of Scotland without issue.
In 2019 after an over heating issue, we did an engine rebuild including cambelt, waterpump, all aux belts, head gasket, NOS radiator, etc. The car has never overheated since, and the temperature is spot on when driving or sitting at idle.
The car has 7 full sized seats, and the front seats swivel. The driver's seat base has been replaced and now no longer sags, which is a common issue on the Mk2 Espace. It has air-conditioning that blows nice and cold and twin manual sunroofs. The blower currently only works on speed 4 - we think this might be resistor unit in the blower motor housing under the bonnet. He has electric front windows and electrically operated side mirrors and power steering. He has the very rare original accessory Turbine 14" alloys with nearly new tyres fitted. He also has the very rare genuine Renault Accessory retractable sunblinds fitted to the rear doors. Comes with a radio/ CD/ MP3 player with Bluetooth connectivity/ hands free. Remote control central locking and two keys (only one remote key). There are also at least 4 large crates of spare parts, a spare bumper, workshop manuals (including a genuine Renault Dealership manual), and an original Pioneer Stereo with a brand new (still in packaging) Remote Control unit that we sourced from a seller in Spain last year. We also have a very rare complete 'overcarpet' set that we bought last year but haven't fitted. Last year the front wheel bearings were replaced too. Even though the MOT was until Aug 2021, we decided to put a brand new MOT on it prior to sale, and he passed on 6th April 2021 with no advisories. He has a huge folder of history and paperwork, original handbooks, service history, etc. I did a tot up, we've spent around £1, 600 on him, but he was worth every penny. Also has a towbar with single electrics - we've only used it for occasional tip runs with a trailer.
Now the bad bits.
As with most 1990's metallic cars, lacquer peel has affected some panels, notably a patch on the bonnet, the roof edges and a bit on the tailgate. The NSF Alloy has a scuff too. Unfortunately I also lost an argument with a small bollard in Morrisons a few years ago and there is a scrape on the NSR door. There are a few other age related marks and chips, but for a near 26yr old family car, he isn't too bad for his age and deserves to be looked after and cherished by a new owner.
These cars are very rare now, I can't remember when I last saw another Mk2 Espace on the road, apart from when we were in France 2yrs ago on holiday. Whilst its not 100% reliable, the 'How Many Left' Site lists less then 40 RT Alize models left (petrol and diesel).
So, are you the person to give 'Jaffa the Bus' as he's affectionately known a new home? I can send more photos or a walk around video of the car on request. Car is located in Nottinghamshire, near J27 of the M1. Any inspection welcome inline with Covid regulations. No tyre kickers, timewasters or Canvassers please.
