A larger-than-life in every sense, this Ford Zephyr has been so cherished that it has had only one former keeper.
Most striking thing about it is the glorious deep bright red paintork radiating a happy-to-be-alive feeling! This one is lucky enough to feature a rare floor-change gear mechanism, meaning it's much easier and more intuitive to drive nowadays. This was Ford's muscle car for the British market, hence the inline six-cylinder 2. 5-litre engine, with accompanying harmonics.
The gearbox is a 4-speed manual, with synchromesh across all four gears and it delivers buttery smooth gear changes, all in all with the engine giving a very capable but easy driving experience. The engine bay itself is sparkling clean and the engine has been detailed to perfection.
The Zephyr was designed with Canadian influence, the same chap who had deisgned the first Cortina, expalining the flamboyant flaring of the car's rear. The bumpers and chromework are excellently preserved, as is the bodywork in general, and the full-width grille, subtle chrome trim and hubcaps all add to the car's appearance. As the photographs show, the wheel arches have been professionally restored to their original sharp, rust-free state, and set off the stylish wheels beautifully.
Continuing with the American theme, the interior resembles a 1950s American ice cream parlour or bar; bold, bright expanses of colour and outlandish completely red interior - right down to the interior mirror - and the engine was bumped up a hefty 20hp in the Mark 3 Zephyrs to give a robust driving experience to go with the robust build quality and solidity of the car.
