Description

THIS is my 1969 Mark 3 Spitfire which, in my opinion, has always been the prettiest of the entire Spitfire range. It's those "teddy bear ear" rear lights, the bucket seats, the central wooden dash, push door handles, raised front bumper etc etc and of course the first of the range to be given the 1300cc engine.

Anyway, beauty is in the eye of the beholder Offered here, at bargain money, she is mega solid and you can trace her 12 successive MoT passes, the last one expiring in 2017. During that period she travelled a mere 4, 000 miles or so.

The last owner kept her for 18 years which I think is always something of a bonus on sports cars as they tend to chop and change ownership every few years! Chassis is excellent as is the rest of the structure. Even the panel gaps and door shuts are good for a Triumph! She boasts a pretty interior too. There's one or two imperfections here and there but they remain purely cosmetic and I don't believe they hinder the overall beauty of this rare 1960s Mark 3. The entire front end is steel while the boot lid is fibre glass. That would not worry me as boot lids from the Mark 1, 2 and 3 tend to rot terribly around the bottom edge. All in all, a pretty and fit little GB sports car. It has to be right at this sort of money surely?

Please remember that these classic cars are the equivalent of motoring antiques and cannot, under any circumstances, be compared to your new BMW. Go around them with a fine toothcomb and you will find faults. They all have them unless they are presented as concours! They all need ongoing love and care. They tend to leak oil in varying degrees. They may break down, play up or even present you with a mystery that takes some solving. But that is all part and parcel of classic car ownership. They are there to be loved and cherished like a family pet. They are our motoring heritage and should be treated as such.
