What is it?
This is the ultimate specification of the super desirable R53 Supercharged Cooper S, tickled by John Cooper Works.
What’s it got?
This car is really rather special. In standard form the Cooper S was good for 189hp, but this John Cooper Works special features a factory approved remap on the ECU, all new cat-back exhaust system, machined cylinder head and reduction pulley for the supercharger combined with higher grade spark plugs give this car an output closer to 200hp. The full John Cooper Works cosmetics kit was fitted, along with JCW badging on the body and engine. It even has its own unique serial number, complete with JCW certificate.
How does it drive?
If you haven’t driven a supercharged R53 Mini Cooper S, then you’re certainly missing out. This car almost rewrote the rule book as to how a hatchback could handle, and the supercharger gives this chassis the performance it deserves. An R53 in any form is a superb handling car but matched with the sports suspension and almost 200hp, it’s hard NOT to grin like a Cheshire cat whilst enjoying this car.
The distinctively large gear knob, small sturdy wheel, precise steering and the glorious whine of that supercharger are nothing but addictive. It’s no wonder enthusiasts who owned these cars the first time around are now seeking out superb examples to relive that fun they had 20 year ago.
Why this one?
An early, low mileage supercharged example with some neat JCW improvements really is the one to have. Complete with a full set of keys, original book pack and owners booklet. A well cared for example with the original bills, including the JCW certificate. It’s been in one family since it was new, and wears a matching set of Pirelli P Zeros. The car is completely factory standard apart from an aftermarket head unit. A superb example to get yourself a well cared for, well loved but sparingly used R53 Cooper S with the iconic John Cooper Works association. Not to be missed. Oh, and its ULEZ compliant!
