Description
During World War 2 there was such a big demand for small personnel transport vehicles that Willys were unable to produce enough of their iconic Jeeps. Ford stepped up and produced the GPW.
This example was produced in July 1945 and was supplied to the US Army occupation force in Japan. It remained in Japan under a lend/ lease agreement in the 1950’s with the Japanese Defence Force (JDF). It was overhauled in 1959 by the JDF. In 1962 it came off lend/ lease and was returned to the USA.
In 2016 it was brought to the UK where it has undergone a complete nut and bolt restoration.
The engine and gearbox have been stripped and rebuilt. The engine block has been crack tested and new pistons and rings fitted.
A new clutch has been fitted.
The vehicle has been converted to a 12 volt electrical system, and electronic ignition and electric fuel pump installed for reliability.
Body parts have been stripped and repaired/ replaced where necessary. Full re-spray, new combat rims and tyres, new canvas roof and seats.
Has an age-related number plate and is ready to drive on the road.
