Description
The Triumph Herald was launched in 1959 first with 948cc engine, then 1147cc and finally 1296cc power. The early cars were basic and somewhat underpowered but in 1961 the “1200” was launched with wooden dashboard, improved seating and various styling upgrades.
This car is a 1962 Herald 1200 in its original colour scheme of red and white with “Britax” sliding sun-roof. Originally registered 8267DD it spent the first 30 odd years of its life in Gloucestershire, before being sold to Scotland where it was restored by respected classic car specialist Chic Doig.
The condition is good in all areas – the panel fit is excellent, the underside is in fine order and the interior is presentable. There paint finish is also very good with the odd imperfection. In recent years it has benefitted from comprehensive spending, including a replacement clutch and gearbox, stainless steel exhaust, water pump, radiator, new chassis outriggers, brake overhaul with braided hoses and has an alternator conversion.
It comes with two substantial history files including the original sales brochure and instruction book, workshop manuals, every tax disc back to 1962, two articles about the car from the TSCC magazine, hand written details of maintenance, correspondence between owners, photos of the car after restoration and invoices for a long list of work and replacement parts.
During its lifetime, two speedometers have failed; they are both with the car and the total mileage is around 75, 000 from new. offered here on behalf of our customer. Oil change and new fuel pump just completed.
