Description
Reluctantly selling my 1997 840ci Sport with 142, 000 and 2 previous owners on the V5 although it was a single owner who purchased it being a company car.
It’s in Barbados green with black nappa leather. The paintwork is fantastic and the leather defies its age and miles.
I’ve done extensive work to the car in the past year including and not limited to (with invoices):
- Completely refreshed suspension front and back including lemforder arms etc, Bilstein B12 shocks and Eibach springs, poly bushes etc. Stock suspension is no longer available new and the B12 kit is widely regarded as the best option available. It sits a little lower but rides beautifully - firm but not harsh and really makes the car feel like a new car in terms of road holding and cornering. I do have the original springs which can be included in the sale if desired.
- 4 wheel alignment after all the suspension work
- Front and rear brake discs and pads, and including rear handbrake shoes
- New alternator, belts and rollers
- New water pump & thermostat
- New BMW fuel lines
- Transmission fluid change and filter replacement
- New aux fan
- Full oil, plugs and filters service
- Sump gasket replaced
- Fully professionally detailed with ceramic coating (water still beads 7 months later as you can see with photos taken 2nd week of Jan)
- New batteries
- Fan clutch
- Centre bearing and flex disc
- and no doubt other things I have missed… I have spent thousands and thousands on this lovely car bringing it up to a stunning condition. Cosmetically all it needed was a decent detail and as you can see it looks incredible. The paintwork is fantastic and the car genuinely looks like its a fraction of the age.
It comes with:
4 keys - 2 full remote and 2 valet keys
Comprehensive service history with 17 stamps (mainly BMW)
Leather wallet and book pack with some old MOTs and paperwork including all the receipts I have accumulated doing the work listed above.
First aid kit still sealed, complete tool kit including the very rare BMW cloth, glovebox torch, original mats etc.
Period radio and 6 disc CD changer. The car did not originally come with the changer but did have the wiring preparation so I sourced a CD changer which is included and in the boot where it should be.
It is a wonderfully original example in a really beautiful colour combination. The black interior being really timeless and in excellent condition - a sign of a cherished car.
The car drives absolutely spot on, and feels tight and responsive as it should. Some of the cars I test drove when looking for an 8 fell a long way short of how this car feels, and some had much lower mileage.
There are a couple of small things it still needs, but I think with these 8 series that’s pretty much the norm even for the concourse cars (at least in my experience it is). These are the AC needs looking at (heater/ blower etc all working - just no AC at th moment) and the drivers seat height adjuster (moves forwards and backwards fine).
The original anthracite headliner does not sag and is still holding up well - although I would have this redone if I were to keep it as I think it is a matter of time before it 'lets go'.
Wheels are in fantastic condition having been recently refurbished, and are the very desirable and valuable original throwing star wheels with good tyres. They have been painted in a slightly darker colour and really suit the car. There is a matching spare in the boot.
I encourage you to come and view the car. It really is lovely and cosmetically needs nothing and would drive it anywhere, the last bits it needs are minor and would not stop you enjoying the car or taking it to shows as I have.
A chance to own a totally original and and great useable classic BMW which has had all the important, expensive and time consuming work done on it so that you can simply enjoy it. I have a few spare parts, some of which are new I will include in the sale. In my experience of owning the bigger V8 BMWs I have found the low mileage cars that have sat around to be the most troublesome. Much of the work I have done on this car was for the love of the car rather than it needing much of it and just wanting it to feel and drive as good as I could get it.
Looking for its next enthusiast owner, I am downsizing my small BMW collection which is currently 12 cars - mostly of this era. Viewing in Guildford. No group viewings, no exceptions.
Open to part-ex for anything interesting - preferably BMW.
Please message me with any questions. I don't respond to cash offers. Genuine buyers welcome and happy to do a video walk around or call etc.
