If you’re looking for a well-loved and well maintained TR4A, this car might just be the one you’re looking for.
The car has come to The Motorist looking for a new owner after being in the care of the current owner since 2006. The car is displayed in photos with the hood, but a hard top is supplied as part of the sale.
This car, which has a folder of history so exhaustive it makes for inches thick paperwork, has for as long as records show with the car; been maintained to a high standard. GUJ has previously benefitted from a costly, high-quality restoration in 1987/ 88 and there are not only bills to prove this (which in today’s money run to almost the value of the selling price of the car as listed!) but photographs showing the extent of the work.
Since 2006, the current owner has continued to maintain the car to an equally high standard and work has included:
2006 – All new wheels and two new tyres
2007 – 2 new rear springs, rear suspension converted to SPAX adjustable telescopic.
2009 – Overdrive unit removed and overhauled by Overdrive Repair Services ltd. of Sheffield
2011 – New drive shafts fitted
2014 – Engine rebuild by TRGB
2017 – Propshaft rebuilt, fuel pump replaced
2019 – New radiator, chassis welding and strengthening carried out, front wheel bearings replaced – all work undertaken by TRGB
2020 – Fuel tank removed and flushed, welding to front suspension mounts, clutch cylinder replaced and one new tyre
Just like with all classics of this age, there are good points and points to work on which will enhance the value of the vehicle.
Good points:
- Runs, drives and handles incredibly well and is a fantastic example of a TR4A
- Interior seats, carpets and door cards are in great condition and need no investment
- Fantastic back catalogue of history and evidence to show the car has been maintained to an impeccable standard
- Solid underneath – can be seen underneath on a ramp at point of viewing
Room for improvement:
- The dash is weathered and could be enjoyed as ‘original’ or changed to improve the look of the car – new dashes are easily obtained from main Triumph parts dealers.
- Paintwork is good but there are a few chips which have been touched up – very small and only visible on scrutiny. Buyer could add value and improve with a respray
- Some of the chrome has aged and is lightly pitted – could be rechromed or would happily last ‘as is’ if buyer wanted to enjoy without additional investment.
- Car is supplied with a hard top – this is faded and really could do with a respray
Overall, this is a lovely car with a great heritage which could be driven away today and enjoyed in the many warmer, sunny days ahead. Older Triumphs are really climbing in value and are a great investment, so if you wished to enjoy a summer together and sell on, you’ll be well placed to recoup the money you’ve invested and perhaps more!
The Motorist offer 360-degree confidence at every vehicle viewing, with the opportunity to see a car on the ramps, take it for a test drive (subject to presentation of full UK driving licence) and to ask all the questions and view all the paperwork.
