Description
Here is our 1983 Mercedes W123 series 280E in diamond blue with blue cloth interior.
My brother and I bought this car a little over a year ago as our parents had one identical so it was completely nostalgic for us. We bought the Mercedes from a friends father who owned the car since 1987 - in 2000 it was put away in a garage and used very seldom until 2005 where it was unused and then was last started in 2011 - when we bought it we didn’t even attempt to start it we had it trailered to a classic car specialist who recommissioned the car and we managed to get it through an MOT
We used it for a little bit and realised it needed more work so we again laid the car up until funds and time allowed. The car still requires a little more work as it’s developed a few little faults.
During the recommissioning until now we have spent in excess of £2000 just on recommissioning to make sure that the car is perfect. And as it was being driven rectification of any faults.
Due to unforeseen circumstances in both our lives we have now decided to let the car go due to funds and me not having enough indoor space at my workplace where the car currently is as we thought to just park it up and carry on with the work when funds allow.
I am a Detailer by profession but all I have done is given the car a good clean inside out and machine polished half of the bonnet just as a test area the rest of the car is exactly as is when we bought it. Not carried out any bodywork or polishing. Just a really good deep clean.
The car has covered 129k and has the most extensive service history I’ve ever seen. The car was bought new from Lancaster Mercedes in Ipswich in 1983 and was then part exchanged where the previous keeper bought the car from the car has really only had 3 owners from new including ourselves but shows 5 on the V5 due to the car being first a demo vehicle and then some confusion after the second owner registered the car. Happy to explain what he told me.
The service history is from day one full main dealer history and with the same dealership that the car was supplied new. Not only it has stamps in the history book but every receipt from Mercedes is there too down to the original dealership warranty card and 5 original Mercedes keys. The car still wears its original dealership number plates.
Also the car was fully waxoiled a long time ago and have the certificate. The waxoil is still present and has preserved the underside and engine bay perfectly having no rust at all.
There are however a few rust bubbles one area on the rear divers side arch just by the mud flap and both corners of the front valence. I did have the car checked by a fabricator and he said it’s very minor and easily repaired. These were on the list of things to do.
A few little parking dings and minor scratches here and there but you really have to look for them.
The interior is like a time warp. My friend told me that her dad wouldn’t let them eat or drink in the car. No dirty feet in the car and always had and still has the original Mercedes 3 pointed star runner floor mats in it and always kept the car immaculately clean tidy and maintained it constantly and always at Lancaster Mercedes as it was his pride and joy.
I have many more photos and happy to also send videos of the car via WhatsApp. Will happily answer any questions about the car and it’s current little gremlins and be totally honest.
It is an absolutely beautiful car and is a little time warp but it does need a few little bits to make it perfect
