Supplied new in the United States, ODH 141J had just three owners on American soil before coming to the UK in 2006. The history file contains records from when the car was only a few years old, offering an unusually complete account for a W113 of this age. The second owner took the car on in 1976 and covered some 55, 000 miles over the following sixteen years. During this time the car received a new clutch and pressure plate, a top-end engine rebuild with reconditioned cylinder head, new timing chain, rear axle seals, exhaust system, voltage regulator and Bilstein shock absorbers. The third owner, based in Phoenix, Arizona, a dry state and not an incidental detail, purchased the car in 1992 and continued the mechanical programme: new brake hoses, rebuilt master cylinder, new suspension springs and bushes, new ignition components, coolant hoses, wheel bearings and rebuilt front and rear calipers. A concurrent cosmetic restoration was carried out across several Pennsylvania specialists: chrome and metal finishing by Martin's of Philadelphia, bodywork and paint by Herbie's Auto Body Shop in Kingston, and a full interior refurbishment by Coventry Restorations & Spares of Shavertown, documented in a day-by-day labour log spanning May 1993. This owner also entered the car in the 2004 Copper State 1000, a four-day qualifying rally for 80 classics, photographs of which remain in the file. The car came to the UK in 2006 and was acquired by its current owner in 2008 through one of the country's leading Pagoda specialists, who carried out approximately £10, 000 of work: a full interior re-trim, air-conditioning overhaul, oil leak rectification and comprehensive service. It has since divided its time between the UK and the owner's home in the Algarve, covering around 6, 000 miles in that period. It arrives with us in its original colour throughout, Silver Grey Metallic (180G) over red leather, and has remained so since new.
